ILLEGAL DUMP SITES are popping up all over Barbados, putting pressure on the Sanitation Service Authority and Government’s environmental health department.

While the SUNDAY SUN was unable to reach officials, a source said that a nationwide effort was being formulated to clean up secluded areas where garbage is consistently dumped.

“It is putting pressure on the SSA to get equipment to go in and clean these areas,” the source said.

He referred to one area at St David’s, Christ Church, where the entire stretch of a cart road was so littered with trash that an alternative track had been created by users.

He suspected that truck drivers hired by individuals or companies to dump garbage were creating the illegal dump sites.
