Springer, Foundation take lead on Day 1

SPRINGER MEMORIAL and Christ Church Foundation School have taken the early lead on the opening day of the first zonal meet of the new-look Powerade Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletic Championships.

Competing in the Esther Maynard Zone at the National Stadium, Springer Memorial are out front with 292.5 points, followed by the Foundation School girls on 268.5 and Harrison College on 212.5

Foundation have taken a decisive lead among the boys with 202.5 points. St Leonard’s Boys are second with 160 and Combermere are third on 149.

One record fell on the opening day, with Foundation’s Under-15 girls’ 4×100 metres relay team clocking 49.58 seconds. They replaced the 49.88 done by Springer in 2009.

The meet continues tomorrow.
