IT IS TIME for the private sector to step forward with a growth strategy for Barbados instead of simply seeing itself as an advocate and lobbyist seeking Government assistance.
Former Prime Minister Owen Arthur said such an initiative was needed now more than ever given that the industrial strategy Barbados had relied on for decades was now outdated and in some regards dead.
The St Peter MP, who is sitting in the House of Assembly as an Independent, was speaking yesterday during debate on an amendment to the Barbados Investment And Development Corporation Act.
The former Minister of Finance said “the private sector has to stop the attitude that its only function is to be an advocate and a lobby and sit down to begin to take stock of what is happening in the global economy, and what the private sector itself can do and must do to join global value chains and global supply chains”.
