Rice-Bowen wants call centre back

IF THE FORMER PRESIDENT of the National Organisation of Women, Marilyn Rice-Bowen had her way Cable & Wireless Communications PLC’s call centre operations would have been returned to Barbados rather than Jamaica.

She based her position on the dire situation facing many Barbadian families, a large percentage of whom are led by women.

“Impress upon your management the importance of bringing that call centre to Barbados,” she encouraged those attending the launch yesterday of Flow’s mentorship programme at Accra Beach Resort, an event that coincided with the celebration of International Women’s Day.

She said, “44.2 per cent of our households are headed by women. 19.4 per cent of our women-headed households are experiencing poverty.
