SOLID on the track and strong in the field events.

Perennial girls’ queens Springer Memorial used that formula with telling effect to stave off the challenge of Christ Church Foundation on the first day of the Esther Maynard Zone in the Barbados Secondary Schools Athletic Championships (BSSAC) at the National Stadium yesterday.

Springer ended the day on 292.5 points for a handy 24-point lead over Foundation on 268.5.

Harrison College were third on 212.5 points.

Foundation broke the day’s only record when their Under-15 girls’ quartet of Dominique Wood, Jaliyah Denny, Kyla Cummins and anchor Leilani Haddock clocked 49.58 seconds to erase Springer Memorial’s 2009 mark of 49.88.
