CALL IT A WIN for the management at Grantley Adams International Airport.
Moments ago at the Warrens Office Complex, Minister of Labour Dr Esther Byer Suckoo ruled they did not owe workers a 3.5 per cent increase as contended by the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW).
Byer Suckoo said having read the correspondence from December 2010, she determined the proposed increase had indeed been taken off the table.
She urged the parties to put the issue behind them and forge a new collective bargaining agreement.
It echoes the conclusion stated last month by Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy.
Management of the NUPW led workers in a protest in the Airport car park at the end of January demanding the wage increase.
The parties subsequently went to the bargaining table, but talks broke down at the level of the Chief Labour Officer.
NUPW president Akanni McDowall says the union disagrees with the ruling and the Minister refused to accept some of the evidence they provided.
He says the matter is far from over and will be meeting with the general council to determine the next step. (BN)
