A GAIA victory

MINISTER OF LABOUR Senator Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo has ruled in favour of the management of the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) Inc. in the dispute surrounding the 3.5 per cent wage increase owed to workers.

But the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) plans to continue to fight until the workers get what they believe is due.

Byer-Suckoo gave her judgment late yesterday evening after a second meeting with the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) and the GAIA at her offices.

She said the NUPW was asking her to disregard correspondence from a December 2010 meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, which said that the still contentious 3.5 per cent wage increase for 2011 was taken off of the table.
