REIGNING champions Burger King Lester Vaughan got another taste of success yesterday, winning the inaugural Frank Blackman Zone of the PowerAde Barbados Secondary Schools Athletic Championships at the National Stadium yesterday with 388.5 points.

Former champions Queen’s College, who disappointed last year, showed they will be a force to reckon with at next week’s BSSAC finals, finishing in second place on 377, just 11.5 points behind Lester Vaughan.

Coleridge & Parry were third with 274 points but the northern boys climaxed the day in fantastic fashion as their wonder boy Jonathan Jones produced an amazing anchor leg to win the marquee 4×400-metre relay in 3:21.42 minutes.

The Upper Checker Hall, St Lucy teenager had the spectators on the cycle track jumping when he got the baton in fourth position, about 40 metres behind Lester Vaughan’s Stefon Cadogan-Caesar, who was given a cushion by a magnificent third leg from sprinter Kentoine Browne.
