CARIFTA GAMES medallist Jonathan Jones was in blazing record-breaking form in the 800 metres on the second day of the Powerade Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships’ Frank Blackman Zone at the National Stadium on Friday.

The smooth-striding Jones dismissed the field to easily win the Under-20 Boys’ 800 metres in a new personal best time of 1:51.01. It was the only record broken on the day. The old record was 1:52.41 set in 2011 by Anthonio Mascoll.

Jones was once again too fast for The Lodge School’s Marshall twins, with Akeem finishing second in 1:54.30 while Romario was third in 1:55.68.

The distance champion told SUNSPORT that he was extremely pleased with his times and expects to do even better at the semi-finals.
