Sada Williams rewrites record books, qualifies for Rio (video)
SADA WILLIAMS was in ripping form earlier today and absolutely obliterated Jade Bailey’s national women’s 200 metre record during the Powerade Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletic Championships at the National Stadium.
Williams, representing Harrison College, slammed the field in the Under-20 Girls’ 200 metres to win in an Olympic qualifying time of 22.61 seconds. The old record was 22.91 seconds set in 2008 by Bailey.
Earlier in the day Williams had – with what looked like an early morning jog – set a new BSSAC record of 23.10 seconds in the preliminaries. The old BSSAC record was 23.47 seconds set way back in 1985 by Yolande Straughn.
Tiana Bowen of Christ Church Foundation was second in 24.47 seconds and Keira Forde Richards of St Michael was third in 24.59 seconds.
Yesterday,Williams set a new record of 53.13 seconds in the Under-20 Girls’ 400 metres. (PG)
