THE FIRE BUG STRUCK LAST NIGHT, completely destroying a house at Britton’s Cross Road, St Michael.

The uninsured three-bedroom wall house was owned by 57-year-old Cherie Alleyne, who occupied it along with her 54-year-old brother Neville Alleyne.

Two fire tenders from the Probyn Street fire station responded to the call received just minutes before midnight, and according to Station Officer Denton Foster, his team of seven fire officers and a Sub Officer managed to bring the fire under control around 1 a.m.

A distraught Neville Alleyne told the NATION Online he was not at home when the blaze began and was not sure what had caused it. He said he was returning to the house from a neighbour’s when he noticed flames coming from the area of the gallery and the fire quickly spread.

Alleyne said his sister, who was at home at the time, managed to escape the blaze by fleeing to the next door neighbour’s house. (GC)
