THREE OVERSEAS-BASED PLAYERS, including goalkeeper Keasel Broomes of the New York Cosmos, have been named in a 30-man Barbados football squad now in training for Wednesday night’s Caribbean Football Union (CFU) senior men’s competition at the Usain Bolt Complex.

Broomes is also certain to start in the first-round match that kicks off at 8 p.m. against Curacao.

The other overseas-based players are Emmerson Boyce, who plays in the English Championship side Blackpool, and the Trinidad-based Ranaldo Bailey.

Boyce is expected to lead the team and form part of the midfield, which includes Rashad Jules, Ramario Harewood, Jomo Harris, Haydn Holligan and new face Elijah Downey. The 16-year-old Downey plays for Paradise in the premiership.

Another Paradise player, Armando Lashley, the season’s leading goalscorer with 11 strikes, is among the forwards, along with UWI Blackbirds’ Mario Harte.

Barbados previously faced Curacao in an international friendly in 2008 when they won 2-1 in a keenly contested match.
