Warriors rein in Lakers

SEEMS JAMAR HEADLEY is human after all.

Good thing for him Lumber Company Lakers are too.

Corey McDonald scored 16 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter, including two clutch free throws, as Hilton Barbados Warriors finally brought Lakers back down to earth via Sunday’s 80-75 victory in the Co-operators General Insurance Basketball Premier League at the Barbados Community College.

The result snapped Lakers’ seven-game win streak, dropping them a half-game behind Station Hill, who retook the league lead via an earlier win over Warrens.

At least Lakers managed to contain Headley somewhat, having restricted him to 16 points and six rebounds after the league’s leading scorer came in averaging about 22 and 11.

But they didn’t account for McDonald, as the former MVP almost single-handedly rallied Warriors back from a menacing eight-point fourth-quarter hole (59-51) by scoring quick ten points of a 12-5 run. (JM)
