We’ve done well, says McClean

BARBADOS HAS DONE WELL in the face of a crippling recession, says Senator Maxine McClean and she is willing to challenge anyone to say otherwise.

The leader of Government business in the Senate made the boast in the Upper Chamber yesterday, after the second reading of the Appropriation Bill.

“We were thrown in at the deep end when we commenced our business as the new Government when we took up office in 2008. I am proud to say we have managed well and I challenge anyone to say otherwise,” she said.

“We have maintained our productive sectors like tourism, allowing it to maintain jobs through a number of incentives, and moving from sustaining to charting a path forward for growth.”

McClean, who is also Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, said the country had also strengthened its global positioning by introducing a number or regulatory frameworks in sectors like tourism, international business, commerce and trade, through a number of double taxation treaties with other countries.
