BARBADOS DEFEATED CURACAO 1-0 to win the opening salvo of their Caribbean Football Union Caribbean Cup match at Usain Bolt Complex tonight.

BDFSP captain Romario Harewood put Barbados ahead 1-0 in the 68th minute and Barbados fought off all challenges for the full three points.

In a match where Curacao enjoyed more than 50 per cent of the possession, Barbados soaked up lots of pressure, especially in the second half as the Dutch side pressed for the go-ahead goal.

Harewood’s strike came against the run of play. The partisan crowd celebrated, but soon settled back down absorbed in the close contest, seemingly willing the team to victory.

Barbados keeper Keasel Broome made several saves to keep his side on even terms, while Ranaldo Bailey defended well down the stretch before succumbing to cramps. (SAT)
