A CLASH of the Griffith brothers was a major highlight of the 2016 Sagicor General Insurance Junior Squash Championships which concluded at the Marine Courts, Christ Church, on Sunday night.

Benjamin Griffith emerged Boys’ Under-19 champion, turning the tables on younger sibling Shemane Griffith with a 7-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 comeback victory.

It was a revenge win, after 16-year-old Shemane had defeated his older brother last year, and the left-handed Benjamin staved off some aggressive play from his rival in a match that featured some exciting rallies and drew applause from spectators at the Barbados Squash Club.

Shemane fought desperately to level the match in the fourth set, diving and scrambling at times to keep himself in the rallies, but the eventual champion held steady while also benefiting from crucial “down” errors. Benjamin took match-point and the championship as Shemane conceded a stroke in back court.
