Sandifords, Poon bag most chess awards

REIGNING two-time national champion Yu Tien Poon and the Sandiford brothers, Kyle and Leigh, headlined the list of major winners at the Barbados Chess Federation’s (BCF) 2014 and 2015 national awards prize-giving on Monday night.

Poon walked away with six prizes, including those of senior national champion in 2014 and 2015 during the ceremony at the Barbados Public Workers Co-Operative Credit Union, Belmont Road.

Additionally, the Harrison College student was the Under-20 champion last year and claimed three second-place awards for 2014.

Kyle Sandiford, another Harrison College student, collected four prizes, having enjoyed the distinction of winning the Under-16 and Under-14 titles in both 2014 and 2015. (HG)
