BWU keeping cards close

WHILE THE STRIKE may be over, Barbados Workers Union (BWU) boss Toni Moore left a clear message yesterday that no outsiders will determine the union’s course.

Addressing port workers soon after they walked off the job, Moore responded to persons who questioned why Transport Board employees had not been included: “Who could determine strategy for the Barbados Workers’ Union? If they tempt me I would even say they can’t determine strategy for where they are supposed to determine strategy?”

“But the strategy of the Barbados Workers’ Union will only be decided by the Barbados Workers’ Union and we called on you today (yesterday) and whoever we call on later today (yesterday) . . .  will respond as we want them to respond.”

From early yesterday morning, the BWU called out its strongest arm – the unionised workers at the seaport — to help ram home its demands for the long outstanding payment of increments to striking Barbados Water Authority workers. (HLE)
