Plans for The Hope a worry

NEW PLANS FOR 45 acres of the land at The Hope, St Lucy being used by dairy farmers for foraging has chief executive officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society James Paul worried.

He is calling on the Ministry of Education to rethink its plans to further develop the annex of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP) at that location.

“I don’t think it is right for the Ministry of Education, they have their silos, but I think there needs to be a greater cross fertilisation of ideas and maybe a greater consultation with members of the farming community when it comes to issues like this,” he said.

Paul, who called a Press conference yesterday at the BAS Headquarters, The Grotto, Beckles Road to discuss the matter, said the move would mean that hay for animals may be a bit harder to come by. He also questioned whether the acreage being taken out would be replaced. (LK)
