‘Bring Customs into BRA’

GET CUSTOMS INTO the BRA and do it fast.

That was the plea of Minister of Commerce Donville Inniss as he addressed the official launch yesterday of Standard Distribution and Sales’ new showroom at Norman Centre on Broad Street.

The company opened the modern facility on Bridgetown’s main commercial strip, while keeping its Tudor Street location as a bargain centre.

In an unapologetic broadside against the Government and the trade unions representing Customs workers, Inniss said the process was taking way too long to get the tax collection and border control officers into the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA).

In the meantime, he said, businesses were suffering, paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in demurrage charges because of the extended time it took to have shipping containers unstuffed.
