New River Terminal by year-end
BY YEAR-END, commuters using the River Bus Terminal should be enjoying the comforts of a brand new facility.
During a tour of the Bridgetown, St Michael, building earlier today, Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley said the project would take longer than the six months initially announced.
“We have done pretty substantial work in priming, painting, and even placed windows for proper ventilation [since the ground floor] is the waiting area,” he said “We have also started on the male and female toilets, so we are getting there.”
Even though media reports indicated the project was at a standstill Lashley made it clear that was not the case.
He added private contractors had been contacted for a hand in the project along with the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW).
“This is the first phase of the River Terminal and MTW will be working on this one but the other works MTW will subcontract to small contractors,” he explained. “The second phase will go out to tender to a private contractor to finish the course,” he explained.
The next stage he said would be the concourse and a sitting area for those who use the van stand. (MR)
