Zika decline linked to drought
ZIKA CASES in Barbados are on the decline. And, according to Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George, the drop could be linked to the dry weather conditions.
“We are fortunate at the moment in that we are really in a dry season, so that our numbers have actually fallen off. The reported numbers for Zika within the past two weeks show that the epidemic is waning or getting smaller.
“However, with the advent of any rainfall, the likelihood of having a resurgence of the Aedes aegypti mosquito and then Zika [could be greater]. So Zika is not off the radar of the Ministry of Health,” he said.
