TWO GRANDMOTHERS united in grief yesterday even as one of them watched her daughter being ordered to spend the next 28 days in prison awaiting trial on a manslaughter charge.

Ten months after six-year-old Jahan King died, his mother, Lasonta Gill, 26, and her boyfriend, Dwayne Marshall, 33, both of Belfield, Jackson, St Michael, appeared in Criminal Court No.2 charged with killing him. A post-mortem had revealed that King’s death on June 29, 2015 was as a result of blunt force to the chest and abdomen.

As the handcuffed pair made their way across the courtyard and up the steps of the District “A” Magistrates’ Court, they were trailed by Ena Browne, Jahan’s paternal grandmother, and Margaret Gill, Lasonta’s mother.

On the inside of the full courtroom, accused Gill sat next to a female officer making small glances around, while Marshall appeared to be deep in thought with his hand to his mouth. (TKS)
