NATIONAL SHOOTER Nikita Payne led defending champions C.O. Williams Rangers to a 48-24 demolition of Newbury Stars when the Barbados Netball Association’s Division 1 League continued on Wednesday night at the National Stadium.

A game-high 35 goals from 40 attempts by Payne carried Rangers to their first win of the league while condemning newly promoted Newbury to their third successive loss. Rangers had suffered an upset at the fiery hands of Guardian General Pride of Villa in their opening game.

However, after a slow start on Wednesday night, Rangers, in spite of a sub-par performance by the mid-court and supporting shooter Shaquilla Davis (13/25), blew open the game in the third quarter, outscoring their opponents 16-4 to take full control.

Rangers led 14-8, 23-13, 39-17. (KB)
