THE VISION for the sport indigenous to Barbados to be played globally is quickly becoming a reality.
This was reconfirmed by Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley yesterday as he announced that the World Road Tennis Tournament will definitely serve off in November, just in time to coincide with Barbados’ 50th Independence celebrations.
Speaking at a press conference at Kensington Oval, Lashley said longstanding player and coordinator of the Inter-Parish Road Tennis Tournament, Philip “Foff” Garner, has been appointed to supervise skills and training tours to seven Caribbean countries as they prepare for participation.
Garner has already travelled to St Lucia for the first tour, along with top local players Curtis Jones and Kim Holder, and will soon be visiting St Vincent on May 9, followed by Antigua on May 11; Trinidad and Tobago on May 16 and Jamaica on May 20. (RG)
