Blue win Akela Jones relays
AKELA JONES’ alma mater Hilda Skeene held a day in honour of the rising international star and her former house Blue celebrated in a big way for their heroine.
Blue House captured the inaugural Akela Jones Day Relay Meet with a whopping 264 points, leaving Green on 196, Yellow on 192 and Red on 170. Blue, who are the 2016 inter-house sports champions, were so dominant that they won nine of the 15 relays contested around the St Philip school’s playing field and along the adjacent main road.
Arrio Stuart was among the impressive infants, anchoring his team to victory in the 80 metres Shuttle. Blue speedsters like Milan Trotman, Jayquan Medford, Cassara Taitt and Kimberlee Bennett smashed the field in the Lower Juniors Cross Country.
The innovation of fielding two boys and two girls in the same race added to the excitement and in spite of being demolished by the Blue team, the other houses represented well.
The likes of Shannyah Gittens, Quiann Callender, Keon Gittens and Rison Garrett racked up points for Green and kept up the chase on Blue.
Orlando Callender was one of the outstanding performers for Red as he anchored them to victory in the Infants Cross Country, with teammates Sherwin Wilson, Kemara Mason-Ellis and Kevianne Blades providing good support.
A number of other activities, like the jumping tent and ball skills test provided additional fun while the sale of various snacks and delicacies added to the pleasure.
