OUTSPOKEN DEFENCE LAWYER Arthur Holder is hopping mad.
He is at his wit’s end regarding what he sees as a lack of consistency in the granting of bail in the Magistrates’ Courts, on drug charges in particular.
He is calling for a defined practice direction across the board for magistrates during bail applications, using a specific table for guidance.
Holder’s comments came after salesman Dexter Wayne Reid was granted $175 000 bail, after appearing before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District “A” Court last Wednesday charged with possession, possession with intent to supply, and drug trafficking.
Reid, charged with drugs worth an estimated $500 000, was granted bail after an application from his counsel, Andrew Pilgrim, QC.
