King ends title drought
THE KING is back!
Title No.1 is now in the books for Darian King, as Barbados’ top-ranked tennis pro finally shook off a string of semi-final defeats to register his first tournament win of the year at the Abierto Internacional de Cordoba in Mexico.
Playing in the final on Sunday, the top-seeded King rolled to a relatively routine 6-1, 6-4 championship-winning victory over No.6 Adam El Mihdawy of the United States in the hard-court Futures tournament.
It ended a title-less showing in 2016 for the gifted 24-year-old, who advanced to three straight semi-finals in Greece last month but failed to reach any of the tournament finals. (JM)
