Mia knocks state of QEH
BARBADOS’ HEALTH-CARE SECTOR is so in a mess that those without health insurance should pray to never get sick and have to attend the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
That is the view of Opposition Leader Mia Mottley.
The veteran MP claimed during debate of a no-confidence motion in Parliament yesterday, that it was heart-wrenching how the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Barbados’ only acute health care facility, had been mismanaged over the tenure of the current Government.
Mottley was also quite critical of Minister of Health John Boyce, calling him “disinterested”. “We’ve never had a minister so disinterested. He doesn’t talk about patient care or nurses. Patient care issues matter. If you don’t have cash or health care insurance, God help you in 2016. People pray they don’t get sick and have to go to the A and E (Accident and Emergency Department). This is our only acute care facility in this country. Why is it so difficult?” she asked. (BA)
