Matter ‘will be settled’
MINISTER OF EDUCATION Ronald Jones is promising an end to the impasse with the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) of which he is a past president.
Yesterday during a no-confidence motion being debated in the House of Assembly Jones gave the assurance after saying he was offended at being called out in the pulpit for a “mild confrontation” two decades ago while leading the BUT.
“It is my firm belief that within the shortest possible time the current impasse with between the BUT and – not necessarily the Ministry of Education – will be brought to an amicable close and we could move on with giving light to education and giving light to educators …
“I promise this House to do everything decent that I have to do to ensure this current disturbance finds rest in the graveyard of industrial relations. That is my promise,” Jones said, adding that the ministry had already mobilised to that effect. (AC)
