NUPW calls workers to meet

SALARIES WILL BE up for discussion when the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) meets with its members next Wednesday.

The Dalkeith, St Michael-based union has summoned all public workers to a 2 p.m. meeting to discuss salary proposals submitted to the Freundel Stuart administration since January this year.

Acting deputy general secretary Delcia Burke said the meeting was not an attempt to shut down the civil service but asked all civil servants who are available to attend.

Burke, however, is assuring Barbadians that emergencies such as the ambulance service should not be impacted because a representative from those sectors could attend the meeting and not all personnel. (RRM/JS)
