WINNIPEG – Antonio Whitehall starred with a brace but fellow Barbadian Renaldo Cumberbatch captured the feature CAN$19 000 Hi Lord Stakes to take a share of the headlines at Assiniboia Downs on Friday.

Riding on the seven-race programme, Whitehall rode winners in race one with favourite Papow and in the day’s final event with 19-1 outsider Diamond Heat.

Cumberbatch partnered with 4-1 chance Mumbles to dominate the Hi Lord over five furlongs.

Whitehall has three wins from eight starts to be second behind Barbadian Chris Husbands, who tops the standings with four wins, while Cumberbatch’s triumph was his first for the season which got underway May 8.

In a five-furlong sprint in the curtain-raiser, Whitehall scored with a front-running effort aboard three-year-old gelding Papow, edging the three-year-old and upward maidens by half length. (CMC)
