Gittens second behind Bolt
BARBADIAN SPRINTER Ramon Gittens finished second in the men’s 100 metres at the Ostrava Golden Spike athletics meets earlier today in the Czech Republic.
Running out of lane two, Gittens clocked a season’s best 10.21 seconds (wind -0.4). He had a decent start and powered to the finish as he continues his push towards the Rio Olympic Games.
But all eyes were on the man in lane three where World and Olympic champion Usain Bolt pulled away from the field to win in 9.98 seconds, also a season’s best. Hassan Taftian of Iran was third in 10.25, running on the outside.
Jason Rogers (10.41) of St Kitts and Bahamian Adrian Griffiths (10.43) were sixth and seventh, respectively.
Hurdler Shane Brathwaite also recorded a season’s best time of 13.63 seconds (wind 0.0) in the men’s 110 metres hurdles.
Americans Jarret Eaton and Jeff Porter took the top two places in 13.25 and 13.42 seconds, respectively, while Lawrence Clarke of Britain was third in 13.57. (SAT)
