Guards restless

MORE THAN HALF of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus’ near 80 security guards are threatening to quit the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) over what they deem as poor representation.

And they sent that message loud and clear last Friday after “things did not go as planned” during a meeting with the BWU, chaired by senior industrial relations officer Nancy Solomon, at its headquarters, Solidarity House, Harmony Hall, St Michael.

The guards complained that after months of dialogue between them and the union, and the union and campus representatives, they were still no closer to a resolution and were upset with “their [union’s] lackadaisical attitude”, a spokesperson said.
