BARBADOS HAS HAD its first Zika birth.

And so far, all signs are that the baby is not suffering any related birth defects.

This news came from Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Karen Broome, who revealed that there were nine other pregnant women who were confirmed to have been infected with the mosquito-borne disease.

“In terms of our pregnancies, we have currently ten persons confirmed with Zika that are pregnant and one has delivered with no problem,” Broome told the MIDWEEK NATION, adding that this update was as of Monday.

“The baby, as far as we are aware, is in good health and being monitored by the paediatric specialist,” she continued.  (AD)
