TORONTO – Seven-time Woodbine champion Patrick Husbands celebrated his 43rd birthday in style on Sunday when he reeled off an impressive triple on the ten-race card at the historic Canadian racing oval.
The veteran Barbadian rider saw victory in the day’s opening race over a mile and eighth with favourite My Name Is Michael, followed up in race six over seven furlongs with another odds-on bet Conquest City Girl and in race nine by guiding 4-1 chance Conquest Partygirl to victory over a mile and sixteenth.
Husbands also came close in the day’s feature, the CAN$150 000 Fury Stakes, when he finished second with favourite Jennifer Lynnette – half-length behind winner Tiz Imaginary.
With the success, Husbands stepped up his pace to move to 15 wins for the new season, fourth behind Alan Garcia on 16 points, but 15 adrift of early leader and reigning champion, Brazilian Eurico Rosa da Silva. (CMC)
