Northern Star rebounded from his eventful Barbados Guineas to record a resounding victory at the Garrison Savannah yesterday in the featured Republic Bank Breeders’ Stakes And Trophy Handicap over 1 800 metres.

While the Victor Cheeseman-trained and Mervyn Rollins-owned colt, with jockey Antonio Bishop astride, justified his favourite status, another crowd puller – 2016 Gold Cup winner Dorsett – was condemned to defeat by outsider Indiano Jones in the supporting feature two races later.

Northern Star was given a textbook ride by Bishop, who stalked early leader Pacha for the majority of the race until the two-furlong marker. As he picked up the running, the race was all but over when the second favourite, Stolen, with apprentice Rasheed Hughes astride, found themselves looking for racing room.

By the time she found her momentum, Northern Star was easing across the finish line under no pressure at all.
