Two nurses who love what they do
NURSING IS A profession that comes with many dramatic and stressful situations, yet if asked, most nurses would say they would not trade their profession for all the gold in the world.
Yvette Forde and Michelle Moore are two such nurses. They collectively have almost a half-century’s worth of experience in the field of mental health at the Psychiatric Hospital, once popularly known as Jenkins on Black Rock main road.
Forde, who began her career as a nursing assistant, has passed through the ranks and is now the acting quality assurance officer. Moore, who has followed in her colleague’s footsteps, is now the acting infection control officer for the hospital.
Sitting in the newly refurbished nurses’ lounge on the premises of the institution, both women described their time at the hospital as rewarding. And having come this far in their careers they have seen a lot of changes over the years, though not necessarily for the better.
