Gun scare at court

A ROUTINE STOP by a security guard yesterday uncovered a chilling attempt by a young man to slip into the District A magistrates’ court precincts with a loaded 9mm gun.

The firearm, reportedly tucked between the man’s leg and buttocks, led to the alarming unmasking of an apparent revenge plot that may be connected to the recent fatal gunplay linked to the Brittons Hill, St Michael district, police sources said.

The discovery sent the court and police into high alert with court administrators rushing to address nervous office staff about their fears over the lack of security within the precincts.

The 21-year-old armed man identified as Shaquille Rasheed Greenidge was able to get slightly beyond the Coleridge Street gates of the court when the security officer stopped him to enforce the strict dress code. He had been casually dressed in three-quarter “cut-up” jeans and a white T-shirt and resisted the guard’s attempt to deny him entry. (AC/TKS)
