Hinkson: Treat teachers better
THE SHADOW MINISTER of education has blasted Government over its treatment of teachers and handling of disputes in schools.
During debate in the House of Assembly yesterday, St James North MP Edmund Hinkson outlined a “plethora of problems” facing educators, including delayed appointments for about 300 of them.
He also suggested that Minister of Education Ronald Jones was not confronting the problem of conflict and violence among schoolchildren and teachers, and said that the decision to form a committee to examine the issue was not the answer.
“The honourable minister of education needs to accept the authority and the mandate that the right honourable prime minister has given him and make decisions on these issues,” said Hinkson during debate on the Public Service (Teachers) Order, 2016. (WILLCOMM)
