Matthews leads Barbados to Under-19 win
BARBADOS AND TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO both made winning starts to the WICB Women’s Regional Under-19 Cricket Competition.
At the National Cricket Centre, Barbados Under-19 defeated Guyana Under-19 by eight wickets, while Trinidad and Tobago cruised to a ten-wicket win over Windward Islands.
Barbadian Hayley Matthews underscored her world-class credentials with 55 not out as Barbados scored 71 for two to erase 69 for nine scored by Guyana.
Matthews and Carrington took three wickets each, while Aaliyah Alleyne took two.
Over at Gilbert Park, Windward Islands won the toss and batted first, scoring 39 in 17.3 overs.
Trinidad and Tobago reached 40 without loss in the sixth over despite captain Reniece Boyce being the only person to reach double figures as Windward Islands gave up a whopping 20 extras.
Guyana Under-19 69 for nine in 20 overs (Deborah Vanderstoop 19, Mandy Mangru 16; Hayley Matthews 3-10, Shaunte Carrington 3-10, Aaliyah Alleyne 2-15). Barbados Under-19 71 for two in 10.3 overs (Hayley Matthews 55 n.o.). Barbados won by eight wickets.
Windward Islands 39 in 17.3 overs (Samantha Cain 11 n.o.; Kamara Ragoobar 3-6, Leandra Ramdeen 2-6). Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 40 without loss in 5.2 overs (Reniece Boyce 15 n.o.). Trinidad and Tobago won by ten wickets. (SAT)
