A CELEBRATORY FIRST visit to Barbados by a retiring Welsh couple has left the husband fighting for his life in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
And the family of Clive Rees, 65, is appealing for help raising a staggering £60 000 to airlift him home to Tumble, South Wales for the required treatment and to be near loved ones.
Clive and his wife Sonia came to Barbados, encouraged by a relative and her husband, on May 13 as their first trip outside of Europe and were staying at the Coral Mist Hotel when tragedy struck three days later.
“He was crossing the road at the time . . . I wasn’t there. Apparently one side stopped and my father thought the other side had too but it didn’t and the car struck him. He had a slight fracture to the back of his neck that was fine but the major issue was that he had a gash on his elbow,” Kevin explained.
