THE NOISE OF bulldozers on the Sam Lord’s Castle site yesterday signalled the start of work for construction of the US$22 million Sam Lord’s Castle Barbados,
Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy (acting yesterday as Prime Minister), chairman of the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. Everton Walters, and officials of the state-owned China National Complete Plant Import and Export Corporation (COMPLANT) joined architects, engineers and others associated with the project to witness the demolition.
Walters said this first phase was expected to take 22 weeks, during which sub-contractors C.O. Williams Construction would completely demolish five buildings and install roads on the 57-acre St Philip site.
This will then make way for the start of the building of the international brand hotel, which is to have 350 guest accommodations, 100 vacation ownership units, a destination spa, conference centre and various other amenities and services. (GC)
