BWA: Water safe to drink

THE WATER IS safe to drink.

The island’s sole water utility yesterday said there is no lead in its supply, neither is there any lead in the pipes as it responded to a persistent rumour of contamination.

In a statement, the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) assured residents that, contrary to a social media post circulating that was blaming some recent deaths on lead contamination of the water, that was not so.

“We want to assure our customers that there is no lead contamination of our water supply from the new meters or any other device attached to the water supply network. It should be noted that the procurement of these meters followed stringent guidelines, consultation and approval of the Barbados National Standards Institution. We have found no proof of their being rejected anywhere,” the BWA statement read.
