ALEX SOBERS has punched his ticket to Rio.

He waited until the 11th hour, but Sobers finally got that Olympic B qualifying mark after winning the 400 metres freestyle Saturday night to cap a satisfying showing at the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships in The Bahamas.

Swimming on the last night of competition, the 17-year-old Christ Church Foundation schoolboy clocked three minutes, 57.30 seconds to go under the Olympic qualifying time of 3:58.51.

Sobers couldn’t have waited any later as the swim came just one night before the final day of Olympic qualification for the sport. (JM)
