BARBADOS lost their opening game of the Norceca Under-21 Continental Championship in Gatineau, Canada, yesterday in exactly one hour, beaten by the United States 25-15, 25-15, 25-16.

Carlos Cyrus led Barbados in somewhat of a fight back in the Group ‘A’ clash with nine points while captain Andriy Stapleton contributed six.

Barbados will be looking for a change of fortune when they play their second and final group match against St Vincent and the Grenadines today at 4 p.m.

Ironically, Barbados had made more attacks than the US, 59 to their 58 but the winners made 32 success attacks to the Bajans’ 18.

Barbados also attempted 30 blocks to the US’ 25 with the winners outdoing Barbados 8-4 in blocks.

Barbados must defeat St Vincent and the Grenadines to qualify as the second placed team in the quarter-finals crossover. (KB)
