VIGOROUS ASSURANCES from authorities have not quelled the concerns of some Barbadians about the quality of water delivered in their taps.

The matter was raised Tuesday night during the first of two town hall meetings hosted by the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) on proposed Standards of Service for the Barbados Water Authority (BWA).

During the meeting at Alexandra School in St Peter, which was attended by around two dozen people, Hallam Hope was the first to register his unease and raised questions about checks and balances.

He referenced one of the proposed Overall Standards dealing with potable water quality.

Based on that FTC proposal, 100 per cent of samples taken must be within limits set by the World Health Organisation as it relates to water supplied to consumers.  (WILLCOMM)
