IT’S BACK TO THE old yard this evening, after an extended break, for the Pic-O-De-Crop Semi-finals when the top 18 will battle it out at the National Stadium.

The event has not created that buzz of yesteryear, but calypso fans and those who just enjoy a good song competition should not despair as the line-up suggests that patrons should not be disappointed by the quality of the event.

Anything is possible in a field that includes some experienced old hands, rising young stars and others who are simply good singers and performers.

If by the start of the second half and the performers realise that it is going to be a tight competition, it is always possible that some of them may risk including extempo lines to try to attract the judges’ attention and whip up the crowd. However, this ploy is best left to the veteran bards who are competent in this area. (ES)
