Pump house in ‘dire need’ of repairs

UNLESS URGENT ATTENTION is paid to the pump house situated in Pelican Village, Bridgetown, some surrounding areas stand the risk of being flooded during the hurricane season.

That assertion has come from Member of Parliament for The City, Jeffrey Bostic, who has complained that with only one of the three pumps in working order, the island’s capital stood a huge chance of being flooded in the event of significant rainfall in the coming months.

Speaking to members of the media today after a short tour of the facility, the Barbados Labour Party MP pleaded for the Government to quickly address what he described as a “monumental issue”.

He said that judging from information he had received, the pump house had been operating at less than one third of its operational capacity for more than a year. (RB)
