NOEL LYNCH isn’t backing down now.
Local track and field’s resident guru is sticking with his bold prediction after saying Akela Jones’ recent performances in the NACAC Under-23 Championships justify her status as a medal hopeful at the Rio Olympics.
The quite candid Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) vice president reiterated his stance in light of Jones’ gold medal-winning feat in the high jump and her subsequent second-place long jump finish.
“The Olympics is obviously going to be a more difficult competition than she’s been at in the past, and we know that at last year’s World Championships she wasn’t the best, but we think she stands a real chance to medal given her performances on the collegiate circuit this year,” he said. (JM)
